Shout out to my best friend of 38 years who can tell this story more accurately than I can...
But some time around 10 years old, I was hanging out at her house, and as I recall, I think she blew her nose and then flushed the kleenex down the toilet.
I was appalled.
All that water.
Don't you care about the environment?!
When she tells the story, she'll tell you how I explained why this was so appalling and that I gave her the exact amount of gallons wasted with each flush. 😆
Whether due to nature, nurture, or brainwashing 😂, I've always had a deep desire to care for the environment, to learn about the body, and to learn and teach about health.
And over the years I've learned to be slightly less annoying and judgemental sounding about it. 🫣
In fact, I'm sort of an advocate for people living their lives however they see fit, though I might still judge you for flushing kleenex down the toilet. 🤣
Anyway! I find the body fascinating! And over the years, as I've searched for answers for my own health issues, I've loved self-experimenting and tracking my results.
A couple days ago I pulled up my blood work spreadsheet. I've ordered my own blood tests and have tracked my blood work since 2004. I have 34 blood tests that I've tracked since then. (If that seems like overkill, keep in mind, I went through a lot of infertility work and had loads of blood work done in those 15 years - some of which I tracked, and some I left off.)
There's one blood panel that I've never been able to move the needle on over the years, and that's my vitamin D3 level. Now, there are different ways to measure D3, which I'm not going to get into right now, but the reference I'll give here is that I have always tried to get that number above 50 (or even 40... for the love).
In the 21 years I've been tracking (and many of those years, I was supplementing D3), I've been lucky to get into the low 30's.
So it was absolutely shocking for me to see that 6 months into my GLP-1 journey, my D3 level was at 36. And a year into my journey, I was at 63.
Like, what?!
As I do, I've done a bit of digging, though honestly, not a lot on this subject.
But what I've found is that there is a strong coorelation between low GLP-1 levels (endogenous, or the ones your body naturally makes) and low vitamin D levels. (There's a theory that those with metabolic syndrome make insufficient GLP-1... I've dealt with PCOS which may explain the naturally low GLP-1... which would then explain the naturally low D3. In theory.)
There's also some evidence that vitamin D will go up with weight loss, which may explain the sudden jump during my journey. Though when I consider my history, for me personally, total weight, which has been up to 15 pounds lower than I am right now, or even bouts of weight loss over the 21 years of tracking have made no difference in my D3 levels.
GLP-1 usage was the independent variable = the only thing in 21 years that has moved the needle on my D3 levels.
There's also evidence that increasing D3 (through supplementation) when you have PCOS or another form of metabolic syndrome will improve your insulin resistance and other metabolic symptoms. Again, for me personally, I've done significant "self-experimenting" with vitamin D3 supplementation over the years to no avail.
So to sum up, I have no answers here except that GLP-1 medication did what nothing else over 21 years has done for me. 🤩
And I find it fascinating and something to keep an eye on.
If you want to see my full list of GLP-1 benefits, visit Module 2, lesson 7 in GLP-1 Done Right. I'm absolutely convinced this list is not exhaustive as new benefits are being discovered all the time, but it'll have you wanting all your people on these amazing meds!
And you'll notice that I don't have "improves vitamin D status" on the benefits list. This is because it's not a studied and proven benefit.
There are so many benefits that I and others have experienced with these meds! I'd love to hear yours!! Send me an email and tell me all about it!

Question of the week:
Q: Is fatigue normal while using GLP-1?
A: Totally normal, and it can be pretty intense in the beginning. Your body is doing a lot of healing right now, plus you're probably eating less, which will lower your energy levels. The goal is to support what your body is trying to accomplish by eating as much as you can get down (it's really hard at first.. you may have to force feed), but also honor your body and rest when you need it... which may feel like all the time at first. As you heal, you will feel more energy.... as long as you're eating sufficient amounts of food.
