The Fairy Princess Diet??

I'm a total podcast junkie.

I've listened to so many doctors, experts, gurus and schmos over the years.

I even talk back to them out loud sometimes when I'm out walking and they say something I can't stand. 😆

Probably my current favorite podcast is by a couple of goofy guys that are total science nerds. They can get pretty technical and sometimes I have to listen to them in 2x because they talk really slowly, but they've been my favorite podcast to listen to the last several years.

I recently listened to a couple of episodes that blew my mind.

They were talking about some new fad diets...

the fairy princess diet

the honey diet

the sugar diet

the fruit til noon diet

...or something like that.

Now, one thing I'm absolutely thrilled about these new diets is that they are all about how healing carbs can be.

But come on. Can we just stop cutting out entire macronutrients? 😫

I've been thinking a lot lately about how the confusion and craziness that social media has brought to the party has made me feel about the health and nutrition space. And I don't like it.

The confliction and confusion that is. Because health and nutrition is one of my favorite spaces. I have a total passion for it.

But holy cow can you get lost in the confliction that social media has brought. It makes your head spin!

Now, I'm a rebel by nature. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, to be honest.

But it makes me question things (all the things - unfortunately) in ways that non-rebels probably don't.

And it makes me push back pretty hard when something feels like BS.

Once upon a time, I pushed back pretty hard on the idea that carbs were good for me and my PCOS body.

Luckily though, I have always held the strong belief that cutting out entire macronutrients is no bueno.

I just thought my body was broken so I needed fewer carbs than non-broken people.

That's the BS, by the way. Now I know.

But I think I had to go through everything that I went through and come out the other side so I can use my experience to help others.

And these days, I ususally find myself defending carbs and reminding people of their necessity.

And while I'm thrilled that there are people out there creating whole diets dedicated to carbs and how they can actually help you lose weight and build muscle, they've just taken it too far. Tooooo far.

Why do we always take things too far?

So if you hear about the fairy princess diet, or the honey diet (which sounds pretty amazing, however), or the fruit til noon diet, my friend, don't let it suck you in.

Yes - please - eat the carbs. They are so necessary! For all the bodies (you're not broken, even if you think you are)! And absolutely - go ahead and eat way more carbs that you think you can! (though if you've been low carb for awhile and you're not on GLP-1, you need to take this slow or you'll be sad.)

And yes - please - eat the protein... though you don't need as much as social media would tell you.

And yes - please - eat the fat - though be very wary of the manmade stuff (and also... if you're on GLP-1 - drop the fat way down or you'll be sad about that too).

And maybe if you're struggling with what to eat, just go a little easier on yourself in that department.

Check your sleep and stress before you check your diet, because while we all love to focus on how food affects us, what most people are missing is how stress and sleep are affecting them way more than the food they eat.

Unless it's your diet that's causing stress... which, if you're low carb.. your diet is causing stress. So check that first.

By the way, you can learn all about stress, sleep and diet in GLP-1 Done Right (though coming soon-ish all that information will be separated into it's own course within The Done Right Wellness Vault).

And if you want to listen to those podcasts about the sugar diets, I totally recommend them! Just heads-up that these guys can get technical and pretty sciencey. But if you're like me, that's the best part! (come to think of it, these 2 episodes might be solo... so just the one guy, not two 😜).
